Rygnestadtunet
This is one of the most distinctive (outdoor) museums in the country. The buildings are situated in idyllic surroundings of Rygnestad farm, about 9 km north of Valle centre. The farm which is in its original state, includes buildings and objects left after the legendary Åsmund Torleivson Rygnestad (ca. 153 - ca. 1595), or «Bad-tempered Åsmund» as he was called.
The so-called Rygnestad attic has also gained renown. Here you can see a unique collection of rare national costume fabrics from the 16th century, which have been housed on the farm for close to 400 years now. The timbers in this attic are also worth mentioning for their exceptional girths. |
